Happy Catholic Schools Week!
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces at our pizza lunch today for Parent Appreciation Day. Each day of Catholic Schools Week has a special focus, with events happening throughout the week. On Thursday, we invite you to join us for the Grandparent and Special Friends Mass, hosted by our very own 6th graders. On Friday, we celebrate Student Appreciation Day with a “come as you are” pajama day and a short afternoon party.
WHAT WE’RE DOING THIS WEEK:
Reading: We are continuing our reading of The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. Tomorrow, Tuesday, students will have a check-in quiz to make sure everyone understands which character is which. The quiz is open note, so it is very important to check in with your student and ensure they are caught up and have turned in their daily reading work.
- 6th– Grade Math: This week we are working on Unit 5: Numerical and Algebraic Expressions. This is a challenging unit, and students will need to pay close attention as we move through the content. Expect to see your child working on homework this week. – Mrs. Rutherford
- 7th– Grade Math: We are continuing our explorations of ratios, rates, and proportions. IXL L10, L11, L12, and L13 this week due Friday at 70%. We will also have a test on Friday.
- Religion:
Dear Parents,
This week sixth graders are “front and center” as they prepare to lead our school community in Mass on Thursday. This Mass focuses on Grandparents and friends who support the learning and Catholic identity here at ICRS. Please join us on Thursday at 9:30 at Immaculate Conception Church. Immediately following is our dedication of the covered play area.
Request: We are at the middle of the school year. Please check your child’s school supplies. Many students are coming into my class without pencils, paper, scissors, or glue. Also, many students use my microwave when they have indoor lunch with Ms. Gilley. I am happy to share but am running low on paper plates and plasticware. Any extras you have at home, please send my way. Thank you.
Blessings,
Mrs. Reichlin
- Science: We are building and launching rockets this week. Let ‘em fly!
- Social Studies: We are continuing our Ancient India unit, focusing on the geography of the Indus River Valley. This week, students are recreating a map of the civilization and taking video notes.
- Writing/Grammar: Last week, we defined and took notes on effective narrative writing and the elements that enhance its quality. We will be starting our next writing project soon—a graphic memoir focused on a specific memory from students’ pasts. In grammar, we are continuing our work with adjectives. Students will complete a NoRedInk assignment, which should be able to be finished during class.
GRANDPARENT AND FRIEND MASS
We will begin with Grandparents and Special Friends Day with Mass at 9:30 a.m., followed by a special blessing under the covered play area.
Afterward, guests will rotate between brief classroom visits with a tour and activity and enjoy some treats at St. Joe’s. The event will conclude around 11:30 a.m.
Please be sure to share this invitation with grandparents and special friends—we hope they can join us for this special day!
NO STEM CLUB THIS WEEK
Unfortunately, there will be no STEM club this week.
EARTH CAMP PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Our 6th-grade Earth Camp will take place May 6–8 at CYO’s Camp Hamilton. We are looking for parent volunteers to chaperone this three-day overnight camp. This is a really fun and rewarding way to earn volunteer hours—parents receive 5 hours per day for chaperoning the trip.
Additionally, if you are unable to attend for the entire trip but can help for part of it, we are happy to split the chaperone role between two parents to accommodate. Please reach out if you are interested!

– Sra. Rutherford
