Dear Parents,

All had fun at the Family Fun Night last Friday night.  The middle school dance was full of energy and enthusiasm.  Thanks to all who attended and those who volunteered.

This week school sports games begin.  I am working hard to assure that all students are putting their schoolwork first and not falling behind in assignments.  Students are excited to compete with their school teams.

This is also MAP testing week.  MAP test results help us as teachers and a school to create individualized learning plans for students, navigate the direction instruction, and inform needs for curriculum and resources.  So, we don’t take testing lightly.  You can help as a parent by  ensuring your child gets good sleep the night before testing, has a healthy breakfast and lunch that includes protein, and encouraging your child to work slowly, do their best, have a positive attitude, and not be absent.   Eighth graders always show great growth and learning.  I know this group will do the same.  Anyone who wants to send snacks for growing, thinking 8th graders will be appreciated.

THE FLIGHT PLAN

LITERATURE:  The classic novel study is in week 2.  Students turned in the first reading log on Monday.  Week 2 reading log is due next Monday.  On Tuesday 9/16, worksheets on the setting and characters of the classic are due.  This week, eighth graders will revisit the building blocks of plot and conflict.

RELIGION:  Students reviewed the Catholic Social Teachings.  They will create a mini poster of one.  These posters will be copied to make a resource for classroom teachers.

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Causes of the Revolutionary War were revisited from fifth grade.

We are LEARNERS.  We are FAITHFUL.  We are KIND.

8 Science – This is a short week due to MAP testing. Students were reintroduced to the metric system today and we will continue practicing converting within the metric system on Thursday. Students will receive a metric scavenger hunt to do over the weekend, due Monday!

Hi, parents! It was a pleasure to see the students’ finished identity journals and learn more about them. This week, we’ll review body paragraph structure and begin discussing our first writing assignment. In grammar, we’ll revisit the parts of speech. -Ms. Gilley

Queridos padres:

Todos se divirtieron en la Noche de Diversión Familiar el pasado viernes por la noche. El baile de la escuela intermedia estuvo lleno de energía y entusiasmo. Gracias a todos los que asistieron y a los que se ofrecieron como voluntarios.

Esta semana comienzan los partidos deportivos escolares. Estoy trabajando arduamente para asegurarme de que todos los estudiantes estén priorizando sus tareas escolares y no se estén quedando atrás en sus asignaciones. Los estudiantes están emocionados por competir con los equipos de la escuela.

Esta también es la semana de exámenes MAP. Los resultados de los exámenes MAP nos ayudan, como maestros y como escuela, a crear planes de aprendizaje individualizados para los estudiantes, orientar la enseñanza directa e identificar necesidades curriculares y de recursos. Por eso, no tomamos las pruebas a la ligera. Como padre, usted puede ayudar asegurándose de que su hijo duerma bien la noche anterior al examen, tome un desayuno y almuerzo saludables que incluyan proteínas, y alentándolo a que trabaje con calma, dé lo mejor de sí, mantenga una actitud positiva y no falte. Los estudiantes de octavo grado siempre muestran un gran crecimiento y aprendizaje. Sé que este grupo hará lo mismo. Cualquiera que quiera enviar bocadillos para estos estudiantes pensadores y en crecimiento será muy apreciado.

PLAN DE VUELO

LITERATURA:
El estudio de la novela clásica va por la semana 2. Los estudiantes entregaron su primer registro de lectura el lunes. El registro de lectura de la semana 2 se entrega el próximo lunes. El martes 16 de septiembre, se entregan las hojas de trabajo sobre el escenario y los personajes de la novela clásica. Esta semana, los estudiantes de octavo grado repasarán los elementos básicos de la trama y el conflicto.

RELIGIÓN:
Los estudiantes repasaron las Enseñanzas Sociales Católicas. Crearán un mini cartel sobre una de ellas. Estos carteles serán copiados para ser utilizados como recurso por los maestros del aula.

ESTUDIOS SOCIALES:
Se revisaron las causas de la Guerra Revolucionaria que ya se vieron en quinto grado.

8° Ciencias –
Esta es una semana corta debido a los exámenes MAP. Hoy, los estudiantes fueron reintroducidos al sistema métrico y continuaremos practicando conversiones dentro del sistema métrico el jueves. Los estudiantes recibirán una búsqueda del tesoro métrica para hacer durante el fin de semana, ¡se entrega el lunes!

Fue un placer ver los diarios de identidad terminados de los estudiantes y conocer más sobre ellos. Esta semana, revisaremos la estructura del párrafo del cuerpo y comenzaremos a hablar sobre nuestra primera tarea de escritura. En gramática, repasaremos las partes de la oración.
