We are Learners, We are Faithful, We are Kind

Dear First Grade Families:

     It was wonderful to see so many ICRS families during Catholic Schools Week!  The first graders enjoyed sharing our classroom with guests.   February show-n-tell calendars, read aloud and math games charts will be included in this week’s homework folders.  Charts from last month should be returned as soon as possible.  There is also a math game sheet for “Shut the Box” that the students played in class this week.  They wanted to share it with their families.  Spelling words will be included in weekly homework folders and tests will be on Fridays.  The spelling words will go with the phonics we are learning that week.

We are Learning:

Reading: The Girl Who Thought in Pictures

Phonics: Long Vowels and words with open syllables

Grammar: Pronouns

Writing: Narrative

Math: Subtract a one-digit number from a two-digit number

Science: Animals that live in burrows

Social Studies: What is a citizen?

Religion: Everyone is invited to God’s Kingdom

Prayers: The Glory Be and Liturgy of the Hours

Social Emotional Learning:

• Other People’s Opinions OPO’s
  • “That’s an OPO and we can let it go!”
    • Other people’s opinions can affect us. You COULD get upset and let it ruin your day, or you could recognize that as their OPINION and not let it change YOUR opinion.

Estimadas familias de primer grado:

Fue maravilloso ver a tantas familias de ICRS durante la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas. A los estudiantes de primer grado les encantó compartir nuestro salón de clases con los visitantes.

Los calendarios de Show and Tell de febrero, las hojas de lectura en voz alta y las tablas de juegos de matemáticas se incluirán en las carpetas de tarea de esta semana. Las tablas del mes pasado deben devolverse lo antes posible. También se incluirá una hoja del juego de matemáticas “Shut the Box”, que los estudiantes jugaron en clase esta semana. Ellos querían compartirlo con sus familias.

Las palabras de ortografía se incluirán en las carpetas de tarea semanales y los exámenes se realizarán los viernes. Las palabras de ortografía estarán relacionadas con la fonética que estamos aprendiendo esa semana.
