Student Information

ICRS offers a variety of clubs and programs to support the development of the whole child, including the following:

• Chess Club, Wednesday mornings for 1st-5th grades
• STEM Club, Wednesday mornings for 5th-8th grades
• Liturgical Choir, lunchtime for 3rd-8th grades
• Altar Server Club, 3rd-8th grades, non-Catholic students are welcome to serve as candle and cross bearers. Catholic students learn how to altar serve and are encouraged to serve at their home parishes and at funerals.
• Folklorico Dance Club, Tuesday and Thursdays at 3:30
• Gardening Club, student led

ICRS has a strong tradition of Outdoor Education. We believe that connecting with nature enhances children’s spiritual development. Students also learn hands-on science and biology when they have rich, authentic experiences with nature. In 2024, ICRS students planted over 400 trees and shrubs in our Tiny Forest in the field north of the school. Annually, each class does a project with the forest with hands-on science as we weed, water, and watch our forest grow. Starting in 3rd grade, students take field trips to local farms and waterways. 4th grade participates in a salmon release program. 5th and 6th grade students attend overnight Outdoor Education camps. 7th grade students backpack at Baker Lake, and 8th grade students camp and kayak at San Juan Island.

Spartan Athletics

ICRS participates in WIAA coed soccer, girls’ volleyball, girls’ and boys’ basketball, and coed track for students in 6th-8th grade. Students learn sportsmanship, responsibility, sports-specific skills, and teamwork. At ICRS, everyone gets to play, and sports are inclusive. Coaches focus on teaching students a life-long love of the sport.

The ICRS student council is comprised of 5th-8th grade students. Students apply for the position and meet during lunch to plan service projects, assemblies, spirit days, and fun, school-wide events. Student Council also welcomes new students, leads Masses, and takes new families on tours. Student Council at ICRS is a way for students to develop their leadership skills.

Family Groups

Every ICRS student, K-8th grade, is in a family group. Family groups meet several times throughout the year to create bonds across grade levels. 8th grade students practice their leadership skills as they lead their group in team-building, fun, or service. The year culminates with family groups participating in Field Day together. Family Groups promote community and belonging.

Buddy Classes

Classes K-7 are teamed as buddies. Grades K – 4, 1-5, 2-6, and 3-7 are buddies. They do classroom activities together and sit together at Mass.

Project-based learning is foundational at ICRS. Teachers use themes, choice, and long-term projects to engage students. Middle school students participate in the Science, Cultural, and Engineering Fair every spring, where each student chooses a topic to explore and present. The school has participated in planning, planting, and maintaining our Tiny Forest for the last several years. Classroom teachers lead projects based on their curriculum and the interests of the students in their classes.

Extended Care at ICRS provides safe supervision, homework support, recreation, and enrichment activities for children of working families who desire both a Catholic education and supplementary day care. Extended Care only operates on regular school days. It is not available on holidays, school breaks, or in the summer months. The hourly charge for extended care is $6.50.

All students must be registered to attend extended care. A flat surcharge of $25 plus the regular extended care charge of $6.50 an hour per student will be assessed if the student(s) is not registered or has not notified the school by noon of the day they wish to drop in.

Schedule

Extended Care is available from 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. (Wednesday 7 a.m. – 9 a.m.) and 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. There is a $1 per minute per student charge for late pick up after 6 p.m.

The ICRS School Counseling Program supports all students through a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). This comprehensive, schoolwide approach supports academic achievement alongside social, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual growth in alignment with our Catholic mission. Tier 1 focuses on promoting a positive school climate, recognizing student strengths, reinforcing effective behavior expectations, and delivering age-appropriate classroom lessons for grades K–8. Tier 2 provides targeted support through short-term individual or small group counseling focused on areas such as friendship skills, coping strategies, study skills, and help with life transitions. Tier 3 offers individualized planning, referrals to outside services, crisis response, and longer-term monitoring. Across all tiers, collaboration with parents, teachers, and staff ensures a consistent approach that meets each student’s unique needs while upholding best practices in discretion and confidentiality.
