Welcome back and Happy New Year!  I hope each of you had a blessed Christmas with family and friends!

Mrs. Brooks and I thank you so very much for the wonderful Christmas gifts!  Your thoughtfulness and generosity are much appreciated!

Snowman week

We had a GREAT first day back to school!  We began our “snowman week” with Frosty the Snowman, hot chocolate and painting snowmen! I have activities scheduled for the rest of the week with lots of fun snowman art, math, writing and heart word activities.

Below is a list of heart words that have been introduced in class.  Please continue to practice these at home and list “Heart Words” on your child’s reading log each time they practice.  The children should be able to read these words IMMEDIATELY, without having to think about it.

What   do   can   are   have   blue   yellow   this   who   has   is   brown   white   big   see   small   an   he   we   here   up   she   red   down   go   and   a   I   the   no   in   it   on   black   away

We will continue to practice/review counting to 100, letter and number recognition as well as writing the letters and numbers.  This month we will work on measurement, addition, counting by tens, counting beginning at any number, mastering letter sounds, rhyming words and blending. We will finish Unit 2 in religion “God’s Love Makes Me Who I Am”.

I sent the children’s towels home over Christmas break to be washed.  If you did not send them back to class today, please do so tomorrow.  There were a few children who were either absent or forgot to take theirs home so they will be going home to be washed today.

  • Glass Jars (with labels and lids removed please)
  • Mini and Regular size marshmallows (we will be using these for math addition stations, hot chocolate and STEM building projects)

Snack, Coats, hats, gloves

Please remember to send a snack to school with your child every day.  It is COLD outside!  Please make sure that your child has a coat, hat and gloves every day.

It is hard to get back in to the swing of things after Christmas break for kindergartners.  We are also picking up the pace in the classroom which is very tiring for the children. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and has a good breakfast each morning.
